Suranjith Wewita, a member of the Presidential Task Force, has been named the new Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority following Buddhika Hewawasam's departure from the position.
Suranjith Wewita has assumed the role of Chairman at the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), taking over from Buddhika Hewawasam who recently stepped down from the position. Wewita, who also holds membership in the Presidential Task Force, was selected to fill the vacancy created by the leadership change.
Hewawaswam, who served as SLTDA Chairman beginning in October 2024, cited personal and professional reasons for his decision to resign. In his resignation correspondence, he expressed that holding the chairmanship had been an honour and acknowledged the tourism sector's achievements during his tenure, including increased visitor arrivals and recognition from international tourism bodies.
Hewawaswam indicated his commitment to facilitating a smooth transition of leadership that would serve the interests of both the SLTDA and the nation moving forward. The appointment of Wewita marks a new phase for the tourism authority as it continues its operations under fresh leadership.
