Suresh Salley, the former director of Sri Lanka's State Intelligence Service, has been placed under a new 90-day detention order as investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks continue.
Former State Intelligence Service Director Suresh Salley will remain in custody for another 90 days following the expiration of his previous detention period, authorities announced. The fresh detention order was issued as investigators continue their work related to the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, which claimed hundreds of lives and remain among the most devastating terrorist incidents in Sri Lankan history.
Salley was initially taken into custody for questioning as part of these ongoing investigations. According to authorities, although a 90-day detention order had been previously granted, Salley spent 78 days of that period receiving medical treatment at Colombo National Hospital, meaning only a portion of the original detention period was spent in active custody.
The extension of Salley's detention suggests that investigative authorities believe further questioning is necessary in connection with their examination of the circumstances surrounding the 2019 attacks. The case remains under active investigation more than four years after the incidents occurred.
