COLOMBO (News 1st) - The government has launched a survey into incomplete government housing projects in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.Deputy Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply T.B. Sarath said that construction of around 6,000 houses had been initiated under previous programmes.However, he noted that work on many of those houses had been abandoned during the initial stages of construction.The government aims to complete these stalled projects as quickly as possible and provide permanent housing to the intended beneficiaries.The Deputy Minister also said plans are underway to double the allocation for housing projects in next year's budget.
