Authorities have apprehended a suspect following an attempt to smuggle rechargeable batteries and other contraband into Magazine Prison in Colombo.
A parcel containing prohibited items has been recovered at Magazine Prison after being thrown over the facility's perimeter wall, according to police reports. The recovered package contained 30 mobile phone batteries, 250 grammes of lime, 50 grammes of tobacco, and a substance identified as 'Mawa'.
Following the discovery, law enforcement officers arrested a suspect in connection with the attempted smuggling operation. The Sahaspura Police have taken charge of the investigation and are conducting further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The recovery highlights ongoing security challenges at the prison facility, where authorities work to prevent the introduction of contraband that could be used by detainees. The investigation is continuing as police seek to establish additional details about the operation and any potential connections to individuals inside the facility.
