Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the non-consensual distribution of intimate photographs and videos of a woman through messaging platform WhatsApp.
A 34-year-old resident of Mampuriya has been taken into custody by law enforcement authorities following allegations that he shared intimate images and video content of a woman without her consent. The arrest was conducted on the morning of the 13th by officers from the Wariyapola Computer Crime Investigation Division, acting on a complaint filed by the affected woman.
The case centers on the unauthorized dissemination of the material via WhatsApp, a widely used messaging application. The Anamaduwa Police Division coordinated with specialized cybercrime investigators to apprehend the suspect. The woman approached the Computer Crime Investigation Division to report the incident, triggering the subsequent police action.
Authorities have indicated that the Wariyapola Computer Crime Investigation Division continues to examine details of the case as part of their ongoing inquiry into the matter.
