Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a burglary at a Mount Lavinia house where gold jewellery and cash totalling Rs. 24 million were stolen.

Authorities have apprehended a suspect linked to a significant theft from a residential property in Mount Lavinia, according to police reports. The incident came to light when the homeowner, who had vacated the premises on August 18, returned the following morning to discover valuables missing from the dwelling.

The resident, who was renting the property and had been living there with his family, locked up the house before heading to a relative's residence. Upon his return on the morning of August 19, he found that gold jewellery and cash valued at Rs. 24 million had been stolen. He promptly reported the matter to the authorities.

Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police initiated an investigation following the complaint and made an arrest on August 21—just two days after receiving the report. During their investigation, officers recovered several items that had been taken during the burglary, though police have not specified the exact value or quantity of recovered goods or provided details about the suspect's identity.
