A new 6,000 square-foot multi-cuisine restaurant has opened in Colombo, offering Indian, Chinese, Sri Lankan and Western dishes under one roof. The venue combines contemporary design with flexible dining spaces catering to families, groups and corporate events.
Colombo's restaurant sector has expanded with the opening of Tamarind Multi Cuisine Restaurant at 09 Kinross Avenue, Colombo 04. Occupying over 6,000 square feet across two storeys, the establishment brings together cuisines from across Asia and the West, positioned as a one-stop destination for diners seeking variety. The restaurant can accommodate approximately 100 guests per seating.
The menu spans multiple culinary traditions, featuring dishes such as Tom Yum soup, butter chicken, hot butter cuttlefish, Kerala parotta, chop suey rice and nasi goreng alongside Western selections. According to founder Farhan Hameed, the concept addresses contemporary dining preferences. "Diners today want to enjoy a little bit of everything in one place, while still having good food and value for money," Hameed stated. The kitchen includes four chefs from India specialising in Indian cuisine, complemented by expertise in Chinese and international cooking.
The venue's design incorporates forest-green hues, wooden accents and mural artwork to create what organisers describe as a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere. Distinctive features include an outdoor Indian pod with a live open kitchen, multiple seating options spanning indoor, outdoor and balcony areas, a dedicated children's playroom and two private dining rooms for special occasions and corporate functions. The space transitions from casual daytime dining to a more vibrant evening environment.
Tamarind operates daily from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. The restaurant's design accommodates diverse occasions, from family meals to celebrations and business gatherings, positioning itself as a flexible dining destination for various customer needs.
