Sri Lanka's Cabinet has greenlit completion of remaining road construction around the Homagama Tech City, with two key projects nearing completion to improve regional connectivity and reduce traffic congestion.
The Cabinet of Ministers has authorized the continuation of infrastructure development supporting the Homagama, Pitipana, and Mahenawatta Tech City initiative, which was established to bolster economic growth through technology and innovation-focused enterprise. The approval focuses on finishing two critical road segments that will enhance access to the emerging technology hub.
Work on the Western bypass road, which began in 2020 to circumvent Homagama town congestion, is nearly complete. According to NewsWire, approximately 50 meters of construction remain on this route, which will connect the bypass to the High Level Road once finished. The bypass was conceived to provide a direct corridor to the Tech City while alleviating traffic pressures in the local area.
A second incomplete project involves linking the Pitipana–Dampe Road through the Tech City interior to the Kottawa–Talagala Road via a new access route. This connection will pass through the University of Sri Lanka campus and lead to the Sri Lanka Institute of Biotechnology. About 650 meters of this stretch remains under construction, according to the same source.
Both road projects will be funded through domestic resources, ensuring the Tech City receives improved transportation connectivity essential for attracting businesses and facilitating regional traffic movement. Officials expect the completion of these works to enhance the viability of the technology hub as an economic development driver.
