A fatal drowning incident in Maha Oya has claimed the life of a 19-year-old, while search efforts continue for a third person still missing after three youths encountered difficulty while bathing.

A 19-year-old resident of Mirigama died following a drowning incident in the Maha Oya river in the Madurupitiya area on the evening of August 15. The youth was among three young men who encountered difficulties while bathing in the river, according to police reports.

Two of the three youths were rescued by local residents and transported to Dambadeniya Hospital for treatment. The 19-year-old victim was admitted to the hospital in critical condition but subsequently died while receiving medical care.

The third member of the group remains unaccounted for. Mirigama Police, officers from the Police Life-Saving Unit, and area residents have mobilized search operations to locate the missing youth. The search efforts were ongoing as of the latest updates.
