Authorities have launched an investigation after a consignment of Tamil-language textbooks designated for Grade One students in the Eastern Province disappeared during transport, with one suspect arrested so far.
The Thalangama Police have opened an investigation into the disappearance of educational materials meant for distribution to schools across the Eastern Province. The Educational Publications Department filed a complaint after a shipment containing Tamil-language activity books and textbooks for Grade One third-term classes failed to reach students.
According to police estimates, the missing consignment is valued at more than Rs. 800,000. The Educational Publications Department had contracted a transport company to handle the delivery of the materials to their designated schools, but the company did not complete the distribution as scheduled.
Investigations into the matter are still ongoing, with authorities confirming that one individual has been arrested in connection with the incident. Police have not yet disclosed further details regarding the suspect or the specific circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the textbooks.
