A tragic road accident on the New Kandy Road in Delgoda claimed three lives yesterday, including a seven-year-old child, when a three-wheeler and car collided.

A serious traffic collision in the Delgoda area resulted in three deaths and multiple injuries on the New Kandy Road yesterday afternoon. The crash occurred when a three-wheeler attempting a right turn struck a car travelling in the opposite direction, according to the Meegahawatta Police Division.

Among the deceased were a 69-year-old male driver of the three-wheeler from Delgoda, a 39-year-old woman, and her seven-year-old daughter from Siyambalape. Both the woman and child were passengers in the three-wheeler. The three-wheeler driver, one additional woman, and two children sustained severe injuries and were initially transported to the Udupila Divisional Hospital, where the three fatalities were confirmed during treatment.

A young girl who was in the car also required medical attention and was admitted to Ragama Hospital. The Meegahawatta Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The accident highlights ongoing road safety concerns on major routes in the Western Province.
