Three individuals died in separate traffic incidents across Sri Lanka on Tuesday evening, with police making arrests in connection with each accident.
A seven-year-old girl from Wedithalathivu died after being struck by a tractor on a bypass road in the Adampan Police Division. The child was critically injured in the incident and transported to Pallamadu Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A 32-year-old tractor driver was taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing.
In the Matale district, a 45-year-old woman died following a collision between a jeep and a three-wheeler on the Matale-Rattota Road. The three-wheeler was traveling toward Matale when it collided head-on with a jeep moving in the opposite direction. A child passenger and the female three-wheeler driver sustained severe injuries and were hospitalized at Matale District General Hospital. The woman died from her injuries at the hospital. The jeep operator was arrested and is being investigated by Rattota Police.
A third fatal accident occurred in Colombo, where a 63-year-old woman from Colombo 15 was struck by a tipper truck near Ingurukade Junction in the Grandpass Police Division. The woman was using a pedestrian crossing when she was hit by the truck traveling from the Colombo Port area. She was taken to Colombo National Hospital with critical injuries but did not survive. The tipper truck driver has been arrested, and Grandpass Police are investigating the circumstances.
