A young child from Vavuniya died after accidentally ingesting a milk preservation chemical at a relative's home in Gampola. Authorities determined the substance was consumed in error.

A three-year-old girl visiting relatives in Deltawatta, Gampola has died following the accidental consumption of a chemical used in milk preservation. The child, from Settikulam in Vavuniya, was at the residence with her parents and extended family members who were gathered in the yard at the time of the incident.

According to reports, the girl entered the house and accessed the chemical by climbing onto a window. She mistakenly drank the substance, apparently believing it to be water. A post-mortem examination conducted at Gampola Hospital confirmed that poisoning from the chemical caused her death. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, the child could not be saved.
