JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) have strengthened bilateral ties through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to China in early 2025, with the agreement already leading to training and exchange programmes for party members. Addressing an event marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Silva said the MoU has enabled several JVP and National People’s Power (NPP) activists to undergo study and training programmes in China, with more educational exchanges planned in the future. “It is worth noting with appreciation that the Communist Party of China works very closely with the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) in Sri Lanka,” Silva said, expressing gratitude for the support extended by the CPC. Silva also commended the Communist Party of China for transforming China from what he described as a semi-colonial, semi-feudal society into one of the world’s most powerful nations, crediting the leadership of Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and current Chinese President Xi Jinping. He said China’s economic transformation following Deng Xiaoping’s 1978 reform and opening-up policy, together with its development model of “socialism with Chinese characteristics”, had made the country the world’s second-largest economy. Silva further praised China’s achievements in eradicating extreme rural poverty, noting that more than 100 million rural residents had been lifted out of poverty by 2020, describing it as an example for the rest of the world. He also highlighted President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign and efforts to strengthen the Communist Party of China, saying they had played a significant role in China’s modern development. Silva said the Communist Party of China had become an inspiration for leftist movements worldwide, while reaffirming the JVP’s commitment to maintaining close ties with the Chinese party. He concluded by extending the fraternal greetings of the JVP to the Communist Party of China and reaffirming the importance of China-Sri Lanka friendship. (Newswire)
