Deputy Minister of Economic Development Nishantha Jayaweera has said that one can check whether they have a Taxpayer Identification Number by visiting the website of the Sri Lanka Inland Revenue Department and entering their identity card number.
He further stated in this regard,
To date, more than 12 million people have been issued a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). People waiting for TIN numbers
About 5 million people are waiting to receive their Taxpayer Identification Numbers.
However, he noted that many people do not know whether they have a Taxpayer Identification Number because the Inland Revenue Department has not sent the Taxpayer Identification Numbers to the relevant individuals by post.
