Authorities have announced traffic restrictions across multiple routes in the Bellanwila area as the Rajamaha Viharaya prepares to hold its Esala Maha Perahera celebration this weekend.
The Sri Lanka Police has issued directives regarding traffic management for the Esala Maha Perahera festivities at Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya, which will take place over three consecutive days beginning August 13. Motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes during the period when religious processions are conducted.
The Pavada Perahera procession is scheduled to commence at 7:00 p.m. on August 13 and continue until 10:00 p.m. the same evening. During this window, traffic flow will be affected along the 119 Maharagama-Dehiwala bus route, with specific restrictions implemented at Boralesgamuwa town and Bellanthara Junction. The Police Headquarters has requested public cooperation in managing vehicular movement during these ceremonies.
The perahera observances will extend through August 15, though specific details regarding traffic arrangements for the subsequent days have not been fully outlined. Residents and commuters in the surrounding areas are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid congestion during the festival period.
