COLOMBO (News 1st):The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has reactivated a special investigation unit that had been suspended since 2022.Director General of the TRC, Air Vice Marshal Bandula Herath, said that the unit's function is to investigate financial and technical matters.The investigation unit also includes personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), who were officially assigned to the team yesterday.A primary task of this investigation unit is to identify and take legal action against mobile phone sellers who operate without a valid license from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.Director General of the TRC, Air Vice Marshal Bandula Herath, said that those selling phones without such licenses will be given a one-month grace period to obtain their licenses.He further noted that if a phone is purchased from an unlicensed retail outlet, the Commission will not bear any responsibility regarding service connectivity or other types of security services related to the phone.
