The Sri Lankan military has been placed on standby in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts to respond to potential disasters, with particular focus on flood and landslide-prone areas.

The Ministry of Defence has activated disaster response measures in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts, positioning tri-forces teams to respond swiftly to emergencies. The deployment has been coordinated with the Disaster Management Centre and the National Building Research Organisation to ensure preparedness across the region.

Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara identified several vulnerable locations requiring heightened attention, including Ulapane, Gampola, Nawalapitiya, and Peradeniya. These areas have been designated as priorities due to their susceptibility to low-lying flooding and landslide hazards.

Authorities have urged residents in the affected districts to exercise heightened caution given current weather conditions. The public has been advised to contact the Disaster Management Centre's emergency hotline 117 in case of any urgent situations requiring assistance.
