US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran to end the conflict was “over”, saying he had no interest in further engagement with Tehran. The interim ceasefire agreement, brokered with Pakistan’s mediation, was intended to create a 60-day period for negotiations on a permanent deal. However, indirect talks in Qatar ended without progress, followed by renewed US strikes on Iran on Tuesday. Speaking ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump said: “To me, I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them,” while criticising Iran’s leadership. The US also revoked a licence that had allowed Iran to sell crude oil, petrochemical and petroleum products after three tankers were hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran was given until July 17 to wind down related transactions. (Newswire)
