Two suspects arrested over the killing of a dog seen in a viral social media video have been released on bail pending further court proceedings, Police said. According to Police, the incident took place on August 7, 2025, in front of a Sathosa outlet in Pothupitiya, within the Wadduwa Divisional Secretariat area. Following an investigation launched based on a complaint, officers from the Pothupitiya Police arrested the two suspects on June 25, 2026, and produced them before court. Police said investigations revealed that the dog had bitten a nine-year-old girl on the day it was killed. The two arrested suspects are relatives of the child. Authorities further stated that the suspects themselves submitted the dog’s head for an approved laboratory examination, which confirmed that the animal had been infected with rabies. Further investigations are being carried out by the Pothupitiya Police. (Newswire)
