Police have apprehended two Chinese nationals during a raid in Colpetty after discovering a large quantity of cigarettes that authorities allege were brought into the country without proper customs clearance.
Law enforcement officers from the Colpetty Police Station conducted a raid in the Colpetty area on the evening of the 18th, resulting in the arrest of two Chinese nationals suspected of importing contraband cigarettes. The operation was carried out following intelligence gathered by police.
Approximately 12,000 cigarettes were seized during the raid. According to police, the cigarettes had been imported without the payment of applicable customs duties, constituting a violation of import regulations. The two suspects are aged 31 and 34 respectively.
The Colpetty Police are continuing their investigation into the matter to establish the full scope of the smuggling operation and determine whether additional charges or prosecutions will follow. No further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the importation or intended distribution of the cigarettes have been disclosed at this stage.
