An 18-year-old and a 27-year-old have died following two unrelated motorcycle accidents in different parts of Sri Lanka, with both incidents involving riders losing control of their vehicles.
Two fatal motorcycle accidents claimed lives in separate locations over a recent period. In the first incident, an 18-year-old rider died following a crash in the Welihena area of Dambulla. The motorcycle veered off the road after the operator lost control and struck a culvert. The young rider sustained critical injuries and was transported to Dambulla Hospital, where he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment. Dambulla Police have initiated investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
A second fatality occurred near the Galgodadeniya Junction on the Galle-Udugama Road. In this incident, a motorcycle heading towards Galle similarly left the roadway when the rider lost control and collided with a bus stop structure. Both the rider and pillion passenger suffered serious injuries and were admitted to Karapitiya Hospital. The rider, identified as a 27-year-old from the Udugama area, subsequently succumbed to his injuries. The pillion rider survived the crash and received treatment at the hospital.
Acckmeemana Police are investigating the second accident as authorities seek to determine the precise factors that led to both collisions. The incidents underscore ongoing road safety concerns related to motorcycle accidents in Sri Lanka, with loss of vehicle control emerging as a common factor in these fatal crashes.
