A tragic collision on the Magalegoda–Naiwala Road in Veyangoda has resulted in two deaths and multiple injuries. The incident occurred when a van struck an electricity pole while a family was traveling home after attending a wedding celebration.

The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Navod Chathuranga of Heendeniya, who was operating the vehicle, and an 80-year-old family member. According to police, nine people were initially traveling in the van, including the bride's brother, who was at the wheel, as well as members of the bride's immediate family. All nine occupants sustained injuries in the collision and were transported to Gampaha District General Hospital.

The driver and his elderly relative succumbed to their injuries following admission to the hospital. Seven other passengers continue to receive medical treatment for their injuries at the facility. Preliminary investigations by Veyangoda Police suggest that driver fatigue may have been a contributing factor to the accident, with authorities indicating the collision may have occurred after the driver fell asleep while operating the vehicle.
