A two-day motorcycle racing event in Nuwara Eliya saw two competitors sustain serious injuries when their bikes veered off the course during separate incidents on the opening day.
Two motorcyclists were hospitalised with serious injuries following accidents during a motorcycle race held in Nuwara Eliya on Wednesday. Both injured riders were transported to Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for treatment. According to initial reports, the incidents occurred when the motorcycles left the road surface and overturned into a nearby tea plantation, with poor weather conditions cited as a contributing factor.
The race is part of a two-day event scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, organised jointly by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council and a private association based in Colombo. The course begins near Blackpool Bridge in Nanu Oya and follows steep, winding roads that traverse tea estate terrain towards Magasthota, operating as a timed competition format.
The exact circumstances surrounding each accident remain under investigation.
