Police have arrested three individuals, including two Pakistani nationals, following the discovery of nearly 463 kilograms of suspected crystal methamphetamine at the Colombo Port. The narcotics, reportedly worth over Rs. 8 billion, were concealed in towels inside shipping containers.
Authorities have apprehended three suspects in relation to a major drug trafficking operation uncovered at the Colombo Port on August 31st. Among those arrested are two Pakistani nationals, who were taken into custody at a hotel in Colombo by officers from the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau (CCIB).
The seizure involved nearly 463 kilograms of suspected crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as 'Ice', discovered during an operation conducted jointly by the Police Narcotics Bureau and the CCIB. According to police, the suspected narcotics were recovered from two containers at the port and had been concealed inside towels. Authorities have valued the confiscated drug consignment at more than Rs. 8 billion.
The operation was initiated based on information provided to the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Crimes and Traffic Division. Sri Lanka Customs assisted in the inspection and opening of the suspicious containers. Police investigations are continuing to determine the origins of the large-scale consignment and to identify all individuals involved in the trafficking operation, including those responsible for importing the narcotics into Sri Lanka.
