Two men wanted in connection with a fatal shooting at a Wattala hotel on July 23 have been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport following their deportation from India.

Two suspects allegedly involved in a deadly shooting at a birthday celebration in Wattala have been apprehended at Bandaranaike International Airport after being deported from India. The incident occurred on the night of July 23, when gunmen opened fire at a gathering held at a hotel in the area, resulting in one death.

According to police, the two men fled Sri Lanka illegally by boat to India in the aftermath of the shooting. They were subsequently arrested by Indian security authorities in Chennai and deported back to Sri Lanka. Prior to their arrival, Indian authorities notified officers from the Criminal Investigation Department stationed at the airport about the impending deportation.

The suspects, aged 30 and 34, are both residents of Wattala. Upon reaching the airport, CID officers conducted preliminary questioning before transferring them to the Western Province North Crime Division for continued investigation. Police indicated that inquiries into the shooting incident remain ongoing.
