Sri Lankan customs officers have arrested two Thai men at Bandaranaike International Airport after intercepting a significant quantity of cannabis and hashish they allegedly attempted to smuggle into the country.

Two Thai nationals, aged 23 and 39, were detained at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake early on Tuesday after customs officials discovered a substantial drug shipment in their luggage. The men had arrived aboard Thai Airways flight TG-307 from Bangkok around midnight and attempted to proceed through the Green Channel, a corridor designated for passengers declaring no goods.

Upon inspection by the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit, officers discovered 4.496 kilograms of cannabis known as "Kush" concealed inside 16 vitamin containers, along with 641 grams of hashish wrapped in polythene and disguised to resemble blackcurrant paste. Customs officials valued the total seizure at Rs. 51,370,000.

According to available reports, the two suspects are employed as butchers at a meat market in Thailand. Both individuals and the seized narcotics have been transferred to the Katunayake Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for ongoing investigation.
