The Urban Development Authority's Crescendo apartment complex in Malabe has reached over 85% completion, with plans to hand over units to residents before year-end following a resumption of work in 2025.
Construction of the Crescendo apartment project in Malabe has progressed significantly, with the Urban Development Authority reporting that work is now beyond 85% complete. The residential complex, situated in the Kaduwela-Malabe area, is designed to provide housing for middle-income families and represents a substantial investment in the country's housing sector.
The development comprises a 20-storey structure containing 256 apartment units of varying sizes. According to the UDA, half of the units measure 920 square feet, while the remaining 128 units are 700 square feet, offering options to accommodate different family sizes and preferences.
The project's timeline has been marked by significant interruptions. Initial construction began in 2021 but came to a halt in 2022 as the country faced an acute economic crisis that impacted numerous development initiatives. Work eventually resumed in 2025 after the UDA negotiated and finalized new contractual arrangements with construction partners, allowing the project to move forward once again.
The total investment in the Crescendo project stands at Rs. 4,375 million. The UDA has indicated that residents are expected to receive their apartment keys before the conclusion of 2026, marking a milestone for the authority's middle-income housing initiatives.
