Union Assurance has partnered with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to sponsor the upcoming Colombo Marathon 2026, scheduled for September 13, with the event expected to attract over 4,000 runners across multiple categories.
Union Assurance, Sri Lanka's longest-established private life insurance company, has secured the main sponsorship role for the Colombo Marathon 2026, marking a collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka. The partnership was formally unveiled on August 4 at City of Dreams Sri Lanka, uniting stakeholders around a shared commitment to sports promotion and public health.
The marathon, themed "Steps for Peace and Humanity," will take place on September 13 and aims to establish Colombo as a premier international marathon destination. The event is designed to accommodate diverse participation levels, with five categories including full and half marathons, a 10-kilometre race, a five-kilometre fun run, and a mini run for children. Organisers anticipate drawing more than 4,000 participants from both within Sri Lanka and internationally.
Union Assurance's Chief Marketing Officer, Mahen Gunarathna, described the sponsorship as a natural extension of the company's purpose to protect and promote public wellbeing. He emphasised that the partnership provides a platform to encourage healthier lifestyles across all age groups and fitness levels, while reinforcing the importance of personal resilience and community participation.
Registration for the Colombo Marathon 2026 is now open through the official website. Union Assurance, a subsidiary of John Keells Holdings PLC, operates as a licensed insurer under the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, offering comprehensive life insurance solutions across health, investment, protection, retirement and education sectors.
