A US Congressional delegation headed by Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan is visiting Sri Lanka from July 27-30 to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss shared priorities in the Indo-Pacific region.
A delegation of United States Congress members, led by Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan, is conducting a four-day visit to Sri Lanka aimed at reinforcing ties between the two nations. The delegation arrived on July 27 and is scheduled to remain through July 30, according to the U.S. Embassy in Colombo.
During their stay, the visiting lawmakers plan to engage with Sri Lankan leadership across multiple sectors. The delegation's itinerary includes meetings with Deputy Minister of Defence Major General (Retd.) Aruna Jayasekara, Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih, and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, providing opportunities for dialogue with both government and opposition figures.
The discussions are expected to cover several key areas of mutual interest. These include collaborative efforts against transnational crime, expansion of commercial and economic cooperation, and initiatives to strengthen regional stability and security arrangements in the Indo-Pacific. Houlahan, an Air Force veteran, holds significant positions within the U.S. Congress, serving as the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee's Subcommittee on Military Personnel and as a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
The U.S. Embassy characterised the visit as a demonstration of Washington's commitment to deepening its partnership with Sri Lanka while promoting what it described as a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
