Namal Rajapaksa, the National Organizer and Member of Parliament of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, has urged the government to focus on finding solutions to the economic crisis faced by the people due to the increasing cost of living, rather than engaging in lengthy debates on arrests, investigations and court cases in Parliament. He said that families across the country were facing a severe economic burden and that what the people expected from the President were solutions to the cost of living issues, not comments on arrests and investigations. He said that the parliamentary platform should not be used to express premature opinions on investigations or court proceedings, and added that if there are allegations, they should be investigated independently based on the law. “We have full faith in the law. We are ready to face any investigation or legal action. We have no intention of running away from anything,” Namal Rajapaksa said. He also pointed out that most people were caught in an economic crisis due to the rise in the prices of essential commodities and the increase in family expenses, and accused the current government of failing to fulfill the promises made during the election period. He also said that despite allegations of corruption and malpractice against some government ministers, no appropriate action has been taken against them. Namal Rajapaksa stressed that instead of focusing on arrests and court cases, the primary responsibility of the current government should be to address the concerns of the people regarding the cost of living, economic challenges and corruption within the government. “The most urgent need of the country in today’s environment is to address the cost of living crisis that is increasing day by day,” he added.
