Strict action against forest arsonists

Ratnapura District Secretary and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Committee K.G.S. Nishantha said that the Ratnapura District Disaster Management Committee has decided to strictly enforce the law against forest arsonists.

Due to the dry weather prevailing in some parts of the Ratnapura District, it has been observed that some people are being incited to set fires in forests for various reasons, and a special program has been implemented by the Forest Conservation Department, Wildlife Conservation Department and other relevant agencies in the district to bring them under the law.

In particular, a major fire broke out in the Rattanagolla forest in the Halpe Grama Niladhari Division of the Imbulpe Divisional Secretariat Division of the Ratnapura District from the 6th to yesterday (08) afternoon, and the fire was extinguished yesterday (08) afternoon with the help of an Air Force helicopter.
