Jaffna Government Agent Maradalingam Pratheepan has stated that no deadline has been set for obtaining the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) before June 30th. For the past few days, the public has been standing in long queues every morning at the Jaffna Regional Office of the Inland Revenue Department located on Kankesanthurai Road, Jaffna to obtain the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). In this regard, Government Agent Maradalingam Pratheepan had a telephone discussion with the Regional Commissioner of the office yesterday (25). Based on the above discussion, the Government Agent has informed the public of the following details. 01. No deadline has been set for obtaining the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) before June 30th. 02. No fee will be charged by the Inland Revenue Department for obtaining a Taxpayer Identification Number. Paying or obtaining such fee is a punishable offence. Inland Revenue Department 03. If the Taxpayer Identification Number is already registered with the Inland Revenue Department, the person concerned can obtain a Taxpayer Identification Number Certificate by showing his National Identity Card. 04. If the Taxpayer Identification Number is not registered with the Inland Revenue Department, it can be obtained through the online system i.e. www.ird.gov.lk or by completing and submitting the appropriate application form on the Inland Revenue Department website.
