(M.Manoshitra) The government has not made any political interference in the arrest of former Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa's son and others. The law and the security sector are performing their duties independently. If any opposition party members are involved in this, they should appear before the court and prove their innocence, Deputy Minister of Defense Aruna Jayasekara has stressed. He made this statement while commenting to the media regarding the arrest of former Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa's son and others. He further stated, Our main task as the government in Parliament is to formulate politics and policies. Therefore, the Attorney General's Department, the Ministry of Public Security and the Inspector General of Police are taking appropriate steps regarding these matters. The government does not interfere in this; rather, it only provides guidelines to expedite those steps and the necessary services and facilities for that. Therefore, if anyone in the General Opposition is involved in these matters, it is their responsibility to come before the court and prove their innocence. We, as the government, are only focused on legal proceedings. The Minister of Public Safety has explained this very clearly in Parliament. Our duty as a government is to ensure the safety and well-being of the people. The people have entrusted this government to us to work for them; because this is a people's government. Furthermore, the current position of the General Opposition is now very clear to everyone, he said.
