Sri Lanka's Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an Amber-level warm weather advisory for several districts, cautioning residents to take precautions against elevated heat conditions expected tomorrow.

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre released an Amber-level warm weather advisory on Tuesday afternoon, alerting residents of the Eastern and North Central provinces to prepare for increased heat conditions. The warning also extends to the Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Monaragala districts.

According to the Centre, the heat index—which measures the temperature as perceived by the human body—is expected to reach "Caution" levels in certain areas during daytime hours. This metric provides a more accurate reflection of how extreme heat is experienced compared to standard temperature readings.

Authorities have issued guidance for residents to minimise heat-related risks. Recommendations include maintaining adequate hydration, limiting strenuous physical activity outdoors, and avoiding extended periods in direct sunlight, particularly during peak heat hours. The advisory emphasises heightened vigilance for vulnerable populations, including children, elderly individuals, and outdoor workers who face greater susceptibility to heat-related health complications.

Residents in affected areas are encouraged to plan their daily activities accordingly and remain alert to any changes in health or wellbeing during the advisory period.
