Weather forecast for today (14) :

A few showers may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of Sri Lanka, according to the Department of Meteorology. Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, the North-central and North-western provinces and in the Monaragala, Hambantota, Trincomalee and Mannar districts.

Weather forecast for sea areas:

A few showers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Galle via Colombo. Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island. The sea areas off the coasts extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island may be fairly rough at times. The wave height may increase about 2.0 – 2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

Warm Weather Advisory :

An advisory for warm weather has been issued for the Mullaittivu, Vavuniya, Batticaloa, Ampara, Trincomalee and Monaragala districts. The heat index, the temperature felt on the human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Mullaittivu, Vavuniya, Batticaloa, Ampara, Trincomalee and Monaragala districts during the daytime. Residents have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight where possible and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day. (Newswire)
