A special meeting between women ambassadors serving in Sri Lanka and members of the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus was held at Parliament to mark the International Day of Women in Diplomacy. The event highlighted the contribution of women to global peace, security and sustainable development, and stressed the importance of strengthening equal representation of women in international decision-making. Addressing the gathering, Chairperson of the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus and Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savithri Paulraj said the forum aimed to recognise and promote women’s leadership across diplomacy and governance. Indonesia’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Dewi Gustina Tobing noted that Sri Lanka producing the world’s first female Prime Minister was a key milestone in women’s leadership, while also commending the country’s current level of female parliamentary representation. The discussion also included an exchange of experiences on increasing women’s participation in leadership, diplomacy, politics and public administration, with emphasis on strengthening future cooperation. The visiting delegation also toured Parliament and observed parliamentary proceedings. (Newswire)
