The dispute emerged after Trump declared on Truth Social that the United States possessed "total control" over the Strait of Hormuz and intended to maintain it. Trump described the American naval presence in the region as a "WALL OF STEEL," claiming Iran had no capacity to challenge this deployment.

Araghchi responded sharply, accusing the United States of a pattern of intelligence failures that have led to significant miscalculations. Drawing a parallel to what he described as "the war on Iran," the Iranian Foreign Minister cautioned that Washington risked an even larger mistake regarding the strategic waterway. He emphasized that faulty intelligence posed a greater danger than misinformation itself, urging caution in US decision-making.

Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority directly contradicted Trump's position, stating that the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked and will not reopen unless Iran's conditions are met. The authority rejected repeated claims by US officials that the waterway was no longer restricted, asserting these statements did not reflect the actual situation.
