It has been reported that no deadline has been set yet for obtaining the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) before June 30th. Government Agent Maradalingam Pratheepan discussed with the Regional Commissioner of the Jaffna Regional Office of the Inland Revenue Department located on Kankesanthurai Road, Jaffna yesterday (25) over the phone regarding the long queues of the public in the mornings in recent days to obtain the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). TIN Certificate Based on the above discussion, the Government Agent has informed the public of the following details. Accordingly, “No time limit has been fixed for obtaining the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) before 30th June. No fee will be charged by the Inland Revenue Department for obtaining the Taxpayer Identification Number. Paying or obtaining such fee is a punishable offence. If the Taxpayer Identification Number is already registered with the Inland Revenue Department, the person concerned can obtain the certificate by showing his/her National Identity Card. If the Taxpayer Identification Number is not registered with the Inland Revenue Department, it can be obtained through the online system (i.e. www.ird.gov.lk) or by completing and submitting the relevant application form to the Inland Revenue Department.
