The Navy seized a large number of items that were illegally brought into the country during a special search operation in the Neduntheevu coastal area, Jaffna. During a search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the Neduntheevu coastal area yesterday (24), items suspected to have been illegally brought into the country were seized. Foreign cigarettes, pesticides, etc. Accordingly, six (06) suspicious bags were inspected during this special search operation conducted in the Neduntheevu coastal area by the Sri Lanka Navy ship 'Vasapha' of the Northern Naval Command. The Navy seized five hundred (500) packets of foreign cigarettes, two thousand two hundred fifty (2295) packets of pesticides, two thousand five hundred sixty-nine (2569) packets of medicinal ointments, one hundred sixty-five (165) packets, sixty-four (64) bottles of cosmetics and perfumes suspected to have been illegally imported into the country. Furthermore, the items seized by the Navy through this operation were handed over to the Neduntheevu Police Station for further legal action. The Navy continues to monitor the sea area around the island and conduct patrols and search operations with a view to controlling illegal activities including smuggling of goods by sea.
