Sri Lanka's Department of Wildlife Conservation has announced that tourist bungalows and campsites in Yala National Park's Zones I and II will close alongside the park itself due to ongoing drought conditions in the region.
The Department of Wildlife Conservation has extended its closure of Yala National Park to include all tourist accommodation facilities in the affected areas. Tourist bungalows and campsites in Zones I and II will remain shuttered during the period when the park itself is closed, the department confirmed.
The decision affects visitors who have already made advance bookings for the closure period. According to the DWC, affected tourists will be offered alternative dates to visit the park rather than proceeding with their original reservations.
The temporary shutdown has been implemented in response to severe drought conditions impacting the region where Yala National Park is located. The closure of accommodation facilities alongside the park closure appears designed to ensure comprehensive park management during the drought period.
