Police have arrested a 26-year-old man and 22-year-old woman from Rajanganaya after discovering approximately 18 kilograms of cannabis in their luxury cab at a checkpoint in Puttalam district.

Arachchikattuwa Police apprehended a young couple transporting a substantial quantity of cannabis along the Puttalam–Chilaw road on August 10. Officers conducting routine checks at the Batthuluoya police checkpoint discovered 17.985 kilos of the drug concealed within a luxury vehicle.

The two suspects—a 26-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman—are both from Rajanganaya. According to police investigations, the cannabis had been cultivated in the Thanamalwila area before being intercepted during transport.

The couple was scheduled to appear before the Puttalam Magistrate's Court to face charges related to the seizure. The case represents a significant drug trafficking interception in the Puttalam district.
