Police have apprehended a young man accused of selling cannabis-infused substances to school and tuition students in the North Central Province, with authorities seizing over 9 kilograms of the material.

Authorities in the North Central Province have arrested a 23-year-old resident of Sewanagala on suspicion of distributing cannabis-laced intoxicating substances to school students and those attending private tuition classes. The arrest followed a coordinated operation by Galnewa Police and Community Health Medical Officers from the provincial Ayurveda department, who acted on intelligence gathered by law enforcement.

During the raid, police confiscated an substantial quantity of drugs, including 94 small packets of cannabis, 15 bottles containing 150 grams each of cannabis-laced substances, and 21 bottles containing 250 grams each. In total, authorities seized approximately 9 kilograms and 296 grams of cannabis-related material. The suspect remains in police custody as investigators continue their inquiries into the case.

The operation underscores ongoing concerns about drug distribution networks targeting young people in educational settings.
