Police arrested a suspected gang member during a raid in Boralesgamuwa, seizing drugs and weapons. The suspect is alleged to have been distributing narcotics on behalf of an overseas-based criminal figure.
Law enforcement officers from the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit conducted a raid along Lake Road in Boralesgamuwa yesterday, resulting in the arrest of a 20-year-old local resident. According to police, the operation was based on intelligence gathered beforehand and led to the discovery of significant contraband at the location.
Authorities seized 23.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as Ice, along with a sword and a knife from the suspect. Police alleged that the weapons were being kept at a house where the individual was hiding, and that he was preparing to commit a murder at the time of his arrest. The suspect has since been transferred to Boralesgamuwa Police for further processing.
Investigations suggest the arrested individual was involved in operating a local drug trafficking network, allegedly acting on behalf of an organized crime figure and major drug trafficker currently residing overseas. The suspect reportedly has multiple pending cases registered at various police stations, including allegations of abduction, assault, causing grievous bodily harm with sharp instruments, and drug trafficking.
Police indicated that investigations remain ongoing to establish additional details about the suspect's criminal activities and connections to the larger trafficking network.
