The Badulla High Court is set to pronounce sentences today against SJB Member of Parliament Chaminda Wijesiri and others convicted in a case involving wrongful restraint, assault, and threats against police officers.

The Badulla High Court is scheduled to deliver sentences today in proceedings against SJB Member of Parliament Chaminda Wijesiri, his driver Bandula Rathnayake, and an officer attached to the Ministerial Security Division over multiple charges stemming from an incident involving two police officers.

The charges against the three accused include wrongful restraint, assault, causing injuries, issuing death threats, and causing bodily harm. The court previously determined that Wijesiri and Rathnayake were guilty of four charges each, while police officer Rasika Karunathilaka was found guilty of three charges.

Complications have arisen in the case following the death of Rathnayake, the driver, which occurred after the guilty verdicts were delivered but prior to today's sentencing hearing. The court will proceed with pronouncing sentences despite this development.
