The 41-year-old Portuguese football icon has indicated that the upcoming season will probably be his last, as he approaches the historic milestone of 1,000 career goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested he may step away from professional football after the current season concludes, marking the end of more than two decades competing at the sport's highest level. In an interview with Vogue published on Sunday, the Portugal captain stated that this year would likely represent his final season as a player, with a focus on concluding his career on a significant note.

The 41-year-old has amassed 976 goals across his club and international career, leaving him just 24 goals short of reaching the symbolic 1,000-goal threshold. Ronaldo's career has spanned multiple elite clubs since beginning as a professional with Sporting in 2002, including stints at Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. He currently competes for Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr, where he intends to continue this season as he pursues the milestone.

Beyond his playing achievements, Ronaldo holds the all-time record for men's international goals with 146 and has won the Ballon d'Or five times. Regarding life after football, Ronaldo acknowledged that retirement would create an empty space in his daily existence but expressed intentions to redirect his energy toward travel, padel tennis, and leisure activities away from the sport.
