Police have taken four bus drivers into custody following a drug screening operation at Tangalle bus stand, with urine tests indicating all four had used drugs.

Four bus drivers have been arrested following a drug testing operation conducted at the Tangalle town bus stand. The screening was carried out jointly by the Tangalle Police Traffic Division, the Road Passenger Transport Authority, and the National Transport Medical Institute.

According to authorities, two of the drivers work for private bus operators while the other two are employed by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB). Urine sample tests administered to all four drivers returned positive results for drug use, prompting their custody.

Police have indicated that further action will be taken against the drivers based on the test results, though specific details regarding potential charges or penalties have not yet been disclosed. The operation reflects ongoing efforts by transport authorities to maintain safety standards within the public and private bus transport sectors.
