Sri Lanka's Inspector General of Police says the country has secured international support for extraditing criminals, with Red Notices already issued against 73 suspects and potentially more to follow.

Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya has stated that international cooperation is strengthening Sri Lanka's efforts to apprehend individuals wanted in connection with drug-related crimes. According to the IGP, Red Notices—international arrest warrants issued by Interpol—have been activated against 73 suspects, with consideration being given to issuing similar notices for approximately 100 additional individuals.

The police leadership highlighted that the government's anti-narcotics operations have garnered international recognition. When questioned about potential external pressure or threats resulting from these intensified enforcement actions, Weerasooriya stated he had not personally received any such threats. He noted, however, that individuals and entities involved in financing or supporting the illegal drug trade have faced consequences from the ongoing crackdown.

Addressing concerns raised over critical political commentary directed at him, the IGP dismissed such statements as insignificant, emphasizing that the police force would not be deterred by political pressure. He reaffirmed that police personnel remain committed to their duties and prepared to confront any obstacles they may encounter in their operational work.
