The Samagi Jana Balawegaya-led opposition alliance has won control of the Matugama Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society following elections to its governing body.

The opposition alliance led by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has secured majority control of the Matugama Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society, according to an announcement by the SJB's Chief Organiser for the Mathugama Electorate, Shobhath Wijeratne.

The election results saw 100 members elected as representatives of the cooperative society, representing 46 regional divisions across the area. The outcome marks a significant development in local governance structures within the Mathugama electorate.
