A major share transaction involving Commercial Credit and Finance PLC has set multiple records on the Colombo Stock Exchange, becoming both the largest single trade of 2026 and the largest book-built transaction in the exchange's history.
The Colombo Stock Exchange reached a significant milestone with the completion of a Rs. 9 billion share sale involving a 28% stake in Commercial Credit and Finance PLC. The transaction, which transferred shares previously held by Singapore-based Group Lease Holdings—currently undergoing liquidation—to a consortium of investors, represents the largest single trade executed on the CSE so far this year.
According to Asia Securities, the brokerage firm that facilitated the deal, the transaction also holds the distinction of being the largest book-built transaction ever recorded on the exchange. This method of share placement involves investors placing bids within a price range determined by the underwriter, allowing for institutional-scale transactions.
The timing of the trade carries particular significance given recent market conditions. Asia Securities characterized the transaction as an important indicator of investor confidence and a substantial boost to market liquidity, especially as the CSE has contended with recent volatility linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The landmark institutional trade underscores the exchange's role in facilitating major capital movements and reflects sustained investor interest in Sri Lankan equities despite broader market uncertainties.
